In this article, I will discuss the issues involved in downloading Windows 8 from various sites that claim to be offering the Windows 8 downloads even before Microsoft officially announced the name for the next version of operating system.

If you do a quick Google search on the term "Windows 8 downloads", you will be surprised to see hundreds of results. Many of them are false resulting pointing to some other download sites, but there are few sites out there already offering Windows 8 downloads. Are you shocked? Yes, Windows 8 is not even an official name yet and Microsoft has said no word about their next operating system. But there are sites out there offering downloads.

So, what do you think about those sites? Do you think they are offering any genuine Windows downloads? Obviously it can't be genuine Windows. No body can offer you free Windows other than Microsoft.

So what are the other possibilities? Here is what I can think of:

1. They are offering some pirated copies of old Windows versions.

2. They are offering old versions of Windows with some skins, colors and screens changed to show the name Windows 8

3. They are offering some download files which do not contain any Windows. Instead they have some other executables, often hiding some virus or malware hidden in it.

4. They are offering no downloads. They will make you register in the site, go through several pages and finally say 'File not found'.

So, don't be cheated by the sites offering Windows 8 downloads. You may need to wait atleast another 1 year to download even an alpha, beta or release candidate version of Windows 8.

Typically, Microsoft will offer a time limited, trial version of Windows 8 beta before the final release. Those trial versions can be downloaded from Microsoft website. They will typically have complete functionality of windows, but there could be lot of bugs and may be not reliable in some cases. So, you should never download and install Windows 8 on a computer that is used for any serious work. It is better to install trial, beta versions of any software including Windows 8 on a spare PC or on your second computer.
