Wish List for Windows 8.
It is nearing one year after the launch of Windows 7 Operating System by Microsoft Corporation but it is not far off to think about the next Operating System in the row viz., Windows 8. So far, Microsoft Corporation has kept it's fingers crossed on the next Operating System Windows 8. During June 2010, Microsoft did leaked some information intentionally or unintentionally on Windows 8 in the web. Therein, it was almost clear that Microsoft Corporation wanted some features listed below to be part of Windows 8 Operating System:
1. Instant real time start up of the Operating System; 2. Facial Recognition integrated with the Operating System; 3. Bluetooth 3.0 and USB 3.0 support by the Operating System; 4. Compatibility with multiple devices using the cloud computing technology; and 5. Streaming of Video Media to any screen using the Operating System.
Microsoft Corporation targets to utilize the hardware capabilities now available, with the launch of Windows 8 Operating System. With Microsoft Corporation gearing up for the development of Windows 8 by making clear cut announcements in it's careers page for Windows 8 development, here is my wish list for the Windows 8 Operating system.
1. Prioritize the menus with clear cut messages: Windows 8 Operating System will be prioritizing the various menus and will weed out some of the unwanted menus and messages which are displayed when tasks are carried out. For example, while copying a file or files what is the use of showing the estimated time in the dialog box. Anyways, the user is going to wait for the copying task for completion. Also, some of the menus can be integrated so as to just by clicking one button, the user will be able to obtain it. For example, the "save" and "save as" options used for the first instance are the same.
2. Release the Operating System in time, as scheduled. Every user of Windows Operating System, expects the Microsoft Corporation to put the next version of Windows 7 i.e. Windows 8 Operating System for use as per the scheduled time. Too much of taking time may result in unforeseen expectations from the Operating System as it happened in the case of Windows Vista which ruined the prospects of the OS. In all probability, it is expected that Windows 8 Operating System will be available by 2012 year end for the users.
3. Implementation of Roles to Client Operating System. It is expected that Microsoft Corporation with the novel idea of implementing a specific role to the Client Operating System unlike that is being now done only in Server Operating System. This will benefit a long way, the clients, by way of occupying less space for the Operating System, high-degree of componentization, which will ultimately pave way for faster start up time for the Operating System or in some cases, even instant start up.
4. Integration of Windows Phone 7 User Interface: The User Interface in Windows Phone 7 is called "Metro" and it has got visual shortcuts for other applications viz., "Tiles". This should be integrated with the Windows 8 Operating System. This will make way for the tablet appearance for the Windows 8 Operating System and much more.
5. Provide Sensible Error Messages: All the Operating Systems from the Microsoft Corporation so far has been providing the user with an hexadecimal error code such as 0xe0000786 which is also cryptic. Does this make any sense to the common and layman user of Windows Operating System? Definitely not. Therefore, the Error messages should be made more meaningful and descriptive so that an user can easily understand and do the needful for the problem solving. It is better if a link is provided with the Error Message from the Help Menu for solving such problems.
6. Less Start up Time and Efficient Power Management: As an user of Windows Operating System, I do expect that Microsoft should pay more attention to the Start up time for its Operating System. As seen earlier in this article, lowering and well defined roles for a client Operating System, can even result in the instant Start up or less Start up time which will be appreciated by all significantly. Also the change between various Power management stages viz., Sleep, Hibernate and Wake-up. In real time, the experience of the user will decide the success of Windows 8 Operating System.
7. Permanent Task Bar on the Desktop: I do expect that for the users of Windows 8, Microsoft should provide a Permanent Task Bar on the Desktop which shall integrate common menus or operations that are being performed among a Word File, Excel File, etc. This will just eradicate or minimize the need for a provision to the menu bar items in the Microsoft Office utilities. This permanent Task Bar may also contain common functionality while browsing web, while creating new file etc.
Well, the above are my wish list for Windows 8 hope with which Microsoft can successfully get through Windows 8 with its customers.
