The next version of Windows will be named as Windows 8.There is also rumour on the features that Windows 8 will offer to its users. But one of the major technological advancement will be the support for 128 bit processor. The rumour is that Windows 8 will be 128 bit Operating System. This article will concentrate on this 128 bit OS. Will it be a success or failure? Let's discuss some facts.

There are rumours all around the world that the next version of Windows will be named as Windows 8. To some extend it is also confirmed also in Microsoft Website. Read Window 8 official now! Microsoft hires developers for Windows 8. There is also rumour on the features that Windows 8 will offer to its users. But one of the major technological advancement will be the support for 128 bit processor. The rumour is that Windows 8 will be 128 bit Operating System. This article will concentrate on this 128 bit OS.

What are bit values and how they affect computing?

First of all you may not know what a 32 bit/ 64 bit or 128 bit OS is. So let me first tell you what are all these. In general the bit values represent the speed of processing. More the bit support the more quick will be the processing. These bit values are dependent on the processor as well as the OS. If a processor is capable of processing 64 bits at a time but we are using a 32 bit OS then that processor can't give its full functionality. it values simply represent how many bits a processor can read at a single instance of time.

The next question that arises in our mind that is there any 128 bit processor to support a 128 bit OS.?
The answer is yes. Processor manufactures like Intel and AMD are already working toward the development of 128 bit processor.

Is there is any need for a 128 bit processor?

The answer will be NO for now. There are also some advantages of 128 bit. Please read Windows 8 - A 128 bit Operating System. But as Windows 8 is going to be released most probably in 2012, we can't say surely that there will be no need of a 128 bit OS and processor as the technology is changing rapidly.

If 128 bit processors will be available and Widows 8 will support them, then also many general users of Windows will not use the 128 bit version. Because 128 bit version will surely cost high and you have to also upgrade your system to a 128 bit processor.
Again suppose that we are ready to upgrade our system to 128 bit by spending a lot of money. But there is doubt whether the 128 bit version f Windows will support al the software currently running in 32/64 bit architecture. So in my view the concept of a 128 bit OS will not be successful until all the above criteria are fulfilled.

There is a lot of discussion that Windows 7 will be Microsoft's last 32-bit OS. If it is true then we will see Windows 8 in 64 bit version only or 64 bit and 128 bit versions both. If Windows 8 will support only 64 bit architecture then also there are many problems relating to compatibility with the existing Software.

We can't give you a concluding remark as Windows 8 is still in development and a lot can change. So let's wait for the release of Windows 8 and see what it offers to its users.
